Breathwork refers to a collection of techniques that focus on conscious control and manipulation of the breath for various physical, mental, and emotional benefits. By practicing breathwork, we can deliberately adjust our nervous system into a state that better serves us in the moment. The three pillars of breathwork we focus on here include relaxation, activating, and freedom modalities.
You may be wondering why we even focus on the breath, considering that we breathe all of our lives without giving it a second thought. The fact of the matter is, much of society today is breathing incorrectly, leading to complications with health, mental cognition and disorders, sleep issues, stress, anxiety; the list goes on and on.
Our day to day lives are riddled with these little micro stresses, which in turn activate and keep us in a perpetuated Sympathetic state: our fight, flight and freeze response. We are living our days in survival mode, focused on the external world, and denying our intuition, creativity, resourcefulness, and even for our bodies to innately heal. We need to come back to the breath, focus on conscious breathing, and tap back into out Parasympathetic state, which is where we can rest and digest, live in a regulated fashion, and begin to manifest our true purpose in life.
And that’s just the gateway into the power of the breath. Breathwork can offer numerous benefits, such as: relaxation, stress reduction, increased focus and clarity, enhanced energy levels, improved emotional well-being, improved performance and stamina, and better sleep. It can also support the release of physical and emotional tension, emotions, and Traumas, and promote mindfulness and self-awareness.
